An Act to amend and codify the law relating to adoptions and maintenance among Hindus.
BE it enacted by Parliament in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
Short title and extent
Section – 1. (1) This Act may be called the Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956.
(2) It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
